It’s June 18! Today is the International Sushi Day, which is the reason we should eat sushi. We all know that sushi has become one of the most favourite foods for people around the world over the past 30 years or so. Indeed, raw fish didn’t sound delicious to all cultures in the first place, yet we eventually realised that sushi is such a heavenly food! A good idea to treat yourself for International Sushi Day.
History of International Sushi Day
Fans of Japanese cuisine often celebrate International Sushi Day once a year, despite this holiday having no official status. It’s simply the perfect excuse to enjoy these delicious rolls. You might be wondering, why does June 18th become the International Sushi Day? What happened on this special occasion? The answer is “the power of social media”.
Back in 2009, there was a guy named Chris De May. He created a Facebook page which was devoted to sushi. Of course, during that time, sushi has already been popular. Even many Hollywood stars are huge fans of sushi and often seen near high-end sushi restaurants.
Chris De May came up with the idea to make June 18 as the International Sushi Day. He wrote, “You see, every day of the year without exceptions should be called Sushi Day, but, like any wonderful thing, these rolls deserve their own day.”
In such a simple way, a new tradition was born, and this internet source became viral among Japanese dish lovers from around the world. Indeed, everyday could be “Sushi Day” since the dish is low-calorie and at the same time nourishing. Sushi is good for anyone who is on a diet, but the food is still enjoyable and tasty!
